Podcasts

They start the show with a title and then into a music intro lasting around 30 seconds. The show has 3 hosts presenting the whole show 2 men and a women. It is a very unique show as they talk about the failures in films and how did they get budgeted. They use comedy between the 3 of them like having a normal convocation makes their podcast feel real and more like a chat rather than a show. They started the show by advertising the tour and explaining all of the dates and showing all of the new places and having some relief stories of fans getting mad. They start talking about the film with the film stats mentioning the years of the film and the film scores which this one didn’t even have a score. They go into depth of the film criticising every name and object in the film such as calling a young one Lisa which isn’t a modern society name. They are calling weed “spice” and discuss a variety of aspects of this and trying to find out why they use the word spice and not just call it weed. In the podcast they dont use sound effects or stings that often, For example the first sting in the whole podcast isn’t until 24 minuets into it and then every 20 minutes from there. They use a clip from the film around the middle of the podcast to show some concept to the listener. The podcast is very effective by the way the presenters are talking to each other they have a lot of personality between them and joke around which helps the podcast become very enjoyable. The podcast does not seem script and seems like a casual convosation which is a nice effect to have on the listener.  They talk about their own experience about the films location LA which allows the hosts to relate to the film. They describe the film really well as someone who hasn’t seen it I understood the context of it. During the middle of the podcast they briefly mention their tour again relating it into the film and reminds the listener of what they said at the start.

How did this get made?

The podcast opens with a sponsorship from a different podcast running on the same network talking about sexual health and wellbeing and runs an advert from HP laptops which is a revenue stream for the podcast. It has a strut between the 2 adverts. During the podcast he also mentions his peatron and advertising its features such as longer length interviews. After 30 minutes into the interview the HP advert plays again with only a quick strut which comes as a shock in the middle as well as a few others. This distracts from the interview theme and stands out massively. The host of the podcast is Brett Goldstein who is a British actor starting in shows such as ted lasso and he is an Emmy award winner. The podcast throughout doesn’t have any music or struts which means at times it doesn’t flow at all times. The structure of the podcast starts with an intro to the podcast and then a general interview with the guest and then gets into the films around a third of the way in. The podcast then starts with an intro with music which lasts around 15 seconds and a talking introduction about the episode before the interview starts. Once the interview started they talk about life and how they got here before he asks the questions. They talk about different subjects including comics. The podcast concept is very unique as it describes 5 films which if you died you would take to the grave with you. It gives in depth detail about 5 different films. It took a while to get into the point of the interview, just over 16 minutes. Once into the interview describing how he died as a concept was comedic. The interview is effective as it gives 5 mins as a suggestion to watch. However I feel that the podcast isn’t that interesting as it doesn’t have a good structure to it which makes the podcast not as interesting as it could be. However I like that the podcast is weekly and it as a variety of guests on it from comedians to musicians.

Music and sting

movies to die forArtist Name

I created a series of different stings as well as a main opening and closing title for our podcast movies to die for. As heard in the podcast the music at the start and end is the short theme song for the podcast which is upbeat and not too long for the podcast. This added with a countdown from 5 to 1 is a create little beginning to set the scene of a light hearted podcast. From here I created a short sting which was similar to the intro as well as little sound bites to use through such as a dramatic music sound.

Evaluation

I feel our podcast "Movies to die for" went very well in both the recording and the planning of it. The execution of the recording went very well and went smoothly and the podcast was well planned in advanced and we completed a lot of research about what to talk about as well as statistics and cinema facts.

The recording of the podcast went really well. We set up in our friends houses which had a great sound within the room and they were a guest on our podcast as well. We set up 2 audio recorders on stands and pointed them towards each presenter for the first half and we then changed it for the 2nd half to point one towards me and Robbie and the other to our 2 guests. We started the show off with a scripted segment which had light humour between us and went really well. Although it was scripted it flowed really well leading between the 3 scripted hosts segments. We planned before hand what to say in these sections but scripting half of it and the other half having facts and statistics written down to be able to talk about. We discussed latest cinema stats as well as what's going to be coming up in the future. This gives the podcast a sense of time and date of when the podcast is based if people listen to it back on demand. We then discuss letterboxd ratings from that week and see what we have been watching. We also use this chance to introduce some audience participation from twitter where we got fake responses made up about last week. We also hint at this point about the audience participation happening towards the end of the show. The chat between the guests went really well as we didn't now what they were going to say so we had real reactions rom both the hosts. They answered with details to our questions about their films. We wrapped up the episode with the bucket list segment where we had 4 people in the studio recording which was Ricky to make sure we didn't all talk at once but it worked really well. We announced our audience participation section which allowed the audience to feel like they are connected to the podcast and we hear from their opinions.

There was a few tricky segments of the podcast progress. In the planning section we struggled to work out the audio script to make it not sound scripted. We practiced the script over and over to make it seem natural enough while still having some light humour between us. We practised in a quiet space recording our sleeves and then listening back to it to make sure we didn't sound like robots reading off of a screen. After a lot of reading through we managed to make the podcast sound great and didn't sound too scripted and reading off a page as it came more naturally. We tested our audio set up before we started recording to make sure there was a clear enough sound within the podcast. We had discussed with our guests some of the statistics we were going to mention during the podcast however if we were to improve we would have included a section where we talk more in depth about the box office of each film.  In the post production of our podcast we had some issues with the editing application adobe audition which had no syncing tools to match the audio like premiere pro. Luckily during the recording of the podcast we used a hand clap so we were able to match up the audio correctly. When editing I had to zoom into the milliseconds of the clips to correct the audio to match it otherwise it sounds like there is a ever so slight echo with the room and not a clean sound effect which there is when the audio was match up correctly.

Overall I am very pleased with the podcast I have created "movies to die for" and there wouldn't be a lot of I would of changed if I did it again. It was a great fun and enjoyable experience to record and discuss about out topic of movies people must watch before they die and adding them to a bucket list.
